The Elementary and Secondary Education Act, also known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB), is the largest federal program funding elementary and secondary education in the United States. Authorized in 2002, NCLB brings many important changes to how schools operate. For example NCLB:

• Places high expectations and high standards for all students
• Holds schools responsible for results
• Promotes teaching methods that have been proven to work
• Provides parents greater choices
• Helps parents take a strong role in their children’s education

There are ten education programs, or “titles,” which make up NCLB. The largest is Title I, a program that provides funds to identified schools serving low-income students. Tolleson Union High School District currently offers Title I school-wide programs at all six of our high schools. Title I schools are expected to meet goals for teaching all students to state standards and to make strong efforts to involve parents in their children’s education. In fact, NCLB states that parents are key partners in helping their children succeed in school and in helping schools improve.

Title I, under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to meet the needs of special, educationally and disadvantaged children at the preschool, elementary, and secondary school levels. The purpose of Title I is to help all children achieve the state’s academic standards. This is accomplished through supplemental programs that consist of instructional services, instructional support services, school-wide reform efforts, and increased involvement of parents in their children’s education.

Mission

Based on the district’s mission to guarantee higher levels of learning for all students and the belief that all students can learn, but not in the same way or at the same rate, the Math Department is committed to providing students who are below grade level in mathematics with targeted interventions to increase mastery of mathematical concepts and skills.

Goal

Our goal is to provide additional time and support to the students who need it the most in mathematics.

Mission

Based on the district’s mission to guarantee higher levels of learning for all students and the belief that all students can learn, but not in the same way or at the same rate, the Reading Department is committed to providing students who are below grade level in reading with targeted interventions to increase reading fluency and comprehension.

Goal

Our goal is to provide additional time and support to the students who need it the most in reading and help them reach their highest potential.
